Humanity

After what I saw yesterday I’ve begun to question my-self,” are we really humans”?

A few kilometers away from my house there’s a service road alongside the national highway. There is a ‘tapri’ on this service road. Yesterday in the evening, at around 7:30 or 8:00 my friends Jeet, Adwait and I went there to have tea.

Just while we were enjoying our hot cup of tea, we saw a couple of cute puppies (some 1 to 2 months old) on the service road. A car came from highway on the service road. The puppies were obstructing it's way. The man blew his horn and all the puppies except for one fled. The man blew his horn again but this puppy didn’t move. A thought came to my mind that I should go and pick up the puppy and get him off the road. Before I got up, the man drove his car over this innocent puppy. Adwait and I  saw this and we ran towards the dog, watching us Jeet followed. When we got there we found out the man had drove the car over the puppy’s head. I just can’t describe how badly hurt the puppy was. Jeet insisted we should take the puppy to a veterinary hospital, but there was no use; he was already dead.  There was nothing we could do. We decided to bury him rightfully. So we dug a small pit on a barren ground near the service road and buried him there. We stayed near his burial site for a while, prayed the god to rest his soul in peace and returned to the ‘tapri’. What we saw next left us with no words; the puppies had returned with their mother and were searching for the dead puppy. Watching this, all 3 of us were blown away.  I don’t know how the person will be able to sleep at night after performing such heinous crime. To be truthful, I myself had a sleepless night yesterday. I just couldn’t stop thinking about the puppy and his mother.

Well might be the man in the car had a “bad day” or his “dear wife” was waiting for him, but there was no job on earth, that he possibly had to perform, that was more important than the life of that poor creature. So, what was the rush for?

Just because those innocuous creatures can’t speak, doesn’t mean we will bully them or KILL them! This is a murder and I am of opinion that the man should be punished for this crime. My biggest regret is that this man will never have to pay for what he did.
